We represent one of the most environmentally-friendly tannery in Brazil who are a big player in manufacturing exotic fish skins such as PIRARUCU (Arapaima Gigas) – pronounce pɪˌrɑrəˈku – and Salmon but also beLEAF, a new vegan alternative made from local “Elephant Ears” giant green leaves.

These high-end, superior quality “Bio Leathers” are the result of an organic, chrome-free tanning technology that is environmentally safe and based on over twenty years of research and a close cooperation with the indigenous people involved in this process.

The factory is at the forefront of tanning innovation with a proprietary fusing technique to produce large leather panels:

To meet the growing demand of a nascent luxury market in Fashion and upholstery, the tannery has developed a unique technology to make larger leather panels. This patented technology allows the tannery to manufacture outstanding quality and resistant leather panels by fusing together several skins, of whether Pirarucu, salmon, ostrich legs skins or beLEAF leaves. This process also allows to mix several types of skins together seamlessly into the same panel, allowing a wide array of applications.

These are the main products we offer:

PIRARUCU (Arapaima Gigas) Fish Skins

Our main purpose is preserving the rainforest, the rivers, the local population of fishermen and to make sure the fish is exploited sustainably.

By processing only traceable and regulated skins – which are a byproduct of the food industry – we are helping to preserve this protected species while generating income and environmental responsibility to the local families. This industry is regulated by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) who tracks down all the products through the whole distribution channel and insure that the suppliers are up to par with international sanitary regulations and well-being practices, helping protect the fish, the fishermen families and Nature itself in the process.

THE INCREDIBLE beLEAF | A Vegan Alternative To Leather

The original Elephant Ear leaves from which beLEAF is made

What is beLEAF?

The raw material of be LEAF comes from the Elephant Ear, a wild, giant tropical plant which surface ranges from 2 to 5 sq.ft.

beLEAF leave panels can be dyed in any color

beLEAF is a 100% organically processed, vegan product which, unlike traditional leathers, do not use any heavy metal, thus allowing 100% solid waste reuse without noticeable pollution through composting.

This composting is then used as a fertilizer to sustainably grow new Elephant Ear crops.

The water used in the tanning process is briefly treated to balance the PH and pumped back to the fields surrounding the factory to fertilize and irrigate the new plants.
